2021 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Sales top charts on first day

With a catalog of outstanding horses and rewarding buyer incentives, expectations were high for the 2021 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Sales at Will Rogers Equestrian Center in Fort Worth. But the first day, Friday, October 22, exceeded all expectations with dramatic increases in averages. The second and last day, Saturday the 23rd, promises more of the same.

Three horses sold for $100,000 or more in the Yearling & Broodmare Sale Session I, which averaged a 33% increase over 2020, with 93% completed sales and an average of $23,279.

The Yearling & Broodmare Sale Session I high seller was Desires Cricket, by Dual Rey, purchased for $105,000 by Cindy Perez, Winnie, Tex. Consigned by Alan Chappell, the 6-year-old mare is a full sister to 2010 NCHA Super Stakes Open champion Reys Desire LTE $409,603 and sold with a Reyzin The Cash foal in utero, eligible for the NRCHA Stakes.

Mighty Fine Talker, a yearling stallion by NCHA Open Horse of the Year Smooth Talkin Style, brought $100,000 from Teton Ridge Ranch, Weatherford, Tex., consigned by Cinder Lakes Ranch agent, for Alan Chappell. Mighty Fine Talker is out of Smart Little Lena daughter Mighty Fine Sue, dam of five NCHA earners, including NCHA Futurity Open reserve champion Some Like It Hott ( $183,383, by Spots Hot), and is eligible for the NRCHA Stakes and the NCHA Stallion Foal Program.

This Katty Lady, a yearling filly by WR This Cats Smart, consigned by Wagonhound Land & Cattle, LLC, brought $100,000 from Clinton Marshall, Rathdrum, Idaho. Eligible for the NRCHA Stakes, This Katty Lady, out of Shiners Diamond Lady, by Shining Spark, is a full sister to NRCHA Futurity fourth-placed Open Futurity finalist Shiners Diamond, LTE $142,706 and Denver National NRCHA Derby Open champion Smart Ladies Sparkle LTE $50,243.

The Select 2-Year-Old Sale realized a 25% average increase over 2020, with an average of $32,279 and 95% sold. Sweet Metallic Cash, a Reyzin The Cash daughter consigned by Francisco Jimenez Delgado, brought the sale’s high price of $85,000, from Brent Steward, Las Vegas, Nev. Out of Sweet Mystic Metal, a full sister to Sweet Abra, the #5 all-time leading dam of NCHA money earners, Sweet Metallic Cash is eligible for the NRCHA Stakes and the NCHA Stallion Foal Program.

The Stevie Rey Von son Stevie Winwood, consigned by Cayley Wilson Performance Horses, brought $75,000, the Select 2-Year-Old Sale’s second-highest price from Karen Haugland, Hollister, Calif. In training with Cayley Wilson, Stevie Winwood is eligible for the NRCHA Stakes, the NCHA Stallion Foal Program, and the Western Bloodstock NRCHA Sale Incentive.

All seven horses consigned to the Snaffle Bit Futurity Sales Performance Horse Session sold for an average of $28,714, including Metallic Look, by Metallic Cat, who brought $55,000 from James and Deborah Lohrman, San Juan Capistrano, Calif. Consigned by Jim Gauthier, Metallic Look, an 8-year-old gelding, originally trained by Corey Cushing, is the NRCHA earner of $10,677, with 60.5 AQHA points.

Red Holly Time, was purchased by Cooper Smith, Whitesboro, Tex., for $48,000. The 4-year-old red roan colt, a finalist in the 2020 NRCHA Open Futurity and the earner of $17,815, was consigned by Rob A. Brown, in training with Myles Brown.
